Privacy Policy

How UFO Spotter collects, uses, and protects your data.

Last updated: May 2026

1. Who we are

UFO Spotter is a mobile app and web service for collaborative reporting of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP/UFO), community moderation, and consultation of georeferenced content.

2. Data we collect

Depending on how you use the app, we may process the following categories of data:

  • Email address associated with the account
  • Name or display name
  • Profile photo
  • Internal user identifier
  • Public codename visible in the community
  • Submitted reports (text, metadata, and moderation status)
  • Comments on reports
  • Likes and social interactions
  • Reports of content or users
  • Photos, videos, and PDF documents submitted in reports
  • Approximate location associated with reports (when provided)
  • App language and preferences
  • Push notification tokens
  • Purchase or subscription information (Elite)
  • Usage analytics and diagnostic data
  • Advertising identifiers and related usage data when ads are active for free users

3. How we use data

We use collected data to:

  • Authenticate users and manage sessions
  • Create and maintain user profiles
  • Publish, review, and moderate reports
  • Display reports on the map with approximate location
  • Enable comments, likes, and user interactions
  • Analyze reports and apply safety measures
  • Send push notifications (when authorized)
  • Manage Elite subscriptions and related benefits
  • Display ads to free-tier users
  • Perform analytics, diagnostics, and continuous app improvements

4. Google and Apple login

You can sign in with Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. In these flows, we receive provider-authorized information (for example, identifier, email, and, when available, name or photo).

With Sign in with Apple, you may use Hide My Email, which provides a relay address instead of your primary email. The app does not require users to publicly expose their real email in the community; the public codename is the visible identity in reports.

5. Location

The app seeks to publicly display an approximate location, such as city, region, or approximate address. Map markers may use technical coordinates for visual placement, but the public interface should prioritize approximate context and avoid exposing home addresses or sensitive data.

You may choose not to share location in certain flows; in that case, map-dependent features may be limited.

6. Media and submitted content

You may submit photos, videos, PDFs, and text in reports. Content may be reviewed before publication. After approval, it may become publicly visible in the community.

We reserve the right to remove, reject, or restrict content that violates platform rules, by moderation decision or valid reports.

7. Third parties and services

To operate UFO Spotter, we integrate third-party services that may process data on our behalf or as independent controllers, according to their own policies:

  • Supabase - authentication, database, and backend
  • Google / Firebase - analytics and Google services
  • Google Sign-In - authentication
  • Apple Sign-In - authentication
  • Google Maps - maps and geographic context
  • Geocoding services (Google Maps/Geocoding or OpenStreetMap/Nominatim) - converting coordinates or places into city, region, or approximate address names
  • Google AdMob - ads for free users
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging - optional push notifications, processing device tokens and language or topic preferences
  • Google Play Billing - Android subscriptions
  • Apple In-App Purchases - iOS subscriptions
  • Cloudflare R2 / CDN - media storage and delivery
  • Google Translate / Gemini - automatic content translation, when enabled

We recommend reviewing those providers privacy policies for details on processing and retention.

8. Ads

Free users may see ads, including banners, interstitial ads, and rewarded ads. Rewarded ads may be shown to unlock media downloads without an Elite subscription. Elite users should not see ads while their subscription is active.

Google AdMob may process device identifiers, usage data, and ad-related information according to Google policies and your system preferences (including tracking limitations when applicable).

Ad format availability may vary by platform (Android or iOS) and app configuration.

9. Elite subscription

Purchases and renewals are processed by Google Play or the App Store. We use purchase information (for example, subscription status) to activate Elite benefits, such as ad removal and downloads without ad interruptions.

Cancellations, refunds, and payment management are handled directly in the store where the subscription was purchased.

10. Retention and deletion

You may request deletion of your account and associated data. See the Account Deletion page for instructions.

Even after deletion, some data may be retained temporarily for security, moderation, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or backups with limited retention.

11. Security

We use HTTPS for traffic between app/site and servers, along with backend access controls. No online system is 100% immune to risk; we continuously work to reduce known exposure.

12. Children

UFO Spotter is not intended for small children. We recommend use by people aged 13+ or according to applicable age ratings in stores (Google Play / App Store) in your country.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised when relevant changes occur. Continued use of the service after changes are published may constitute acceptance of the updated version, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
